A day in Amsterdam

I am currently in the Netherlands, anxiously awaiting the results of the See the world with Spar competition. This is die video I made after spending a day in the vibrant city of Amsterdam.

Where people make the difference

Vibrant, tourist-friendly, easy to explore and bicycles everywhere. That is Amsterdam, capital of the Netherlands, in a nutshell.

But it is not necessarily the variety of mouth-watering cheese, the art museums or the excellent public transport system that would make me go back.

It is the city’s wonderful people and the feel they bring to the streets. If you have a map in your hand and you just look slightly lost, you can be sure that someone will soon run to your rescue – and help you in English.

Amsterdam is inviting. It is busy. It is fun. Just be on the lookout for everything that’s moving; the trams, trains, buses and cyclists sometimes appear out of nowhere.

Most people in Amsterdam use a bicycle to get from point A to B.

There are bicycles in all shapes and sizes. These are used as taxis.

Amsterdam's people are always on the move.

A sense of sidewalk humour can earn you a few cents.

'My Spar' in Amsterdam

At home in Joburg 'My Spar' is in Bergbron. While in Amsterdam 'My Spar (s)' is in Nieuwe Kerkstraat and Spaarndammerstraat.
