Just before take-off

It is exactly four weeks since I've found out I've won a four-month world trip in the See the World with Spar competition, and here I am, at OR Tambo airport about to leave for Budapest in Hungary - the first of twelve countries on my itinerary.

And what a hectic four weeks it's been: resigning, finding new tenants for the apartment, applying for visas, sorting out where I am going to leave my car, my furniture, everything. There were times when I thought I am never going to be ready in time.

But I know that every second of admin and running around is going to be worth it. I’ve always loved travelling to new places – be it by plane, train or behind the wheel. My favourite quote is, "This is the final boarding call for flight (number) to (destination)", my favourite feeling is when a plane’s wheels leave the landing strip as it takes off, and my favourite smell is that of early-morning coffee before one hits the road on a long awaited road trip.

After a week in Hungary, I will be off to Slovenia, Italy, the UK, Denmark, Norway, Russia, Mongolia, China, Australia, Zambia and Botswana.

The time has come - now let me see and show you the world with Spar!
